Salam
to all my friends, may Allah bless you wherever you are.
Amma
ba’d.
A cliché
question always arises on my mind. Do I really need a friend? To answer this
simple question, we need to think critically as the answers will justify our
action in the quest of true friends. Indeed! We need friends in our real life.
What types of friends are we looking for? The one
who just seeks us when we are in pleasure is not considered as a true friend. It
is a challenge for us nowadays as we are living in materialistic world. Most of
the time, people tend to ‘use’ the others just for the sake of his or her own
interest. Allah says in the Quran:
“Close
friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous” (Az
Zukhruf 43:67)
Allah
with His mercy guides us to seek the righteous people to make friends. They will
correct us if we go wrong. They will not speak unless it is right, and they
will not do unless it is permissible (according to shariah). This is why we
need to get closer to Allah and ask from him to grant us righteous friends. Righteous
friends will bring tranquility into our hearts.
The
closest friend in our life will be our spouse, the one who knows us externally
and internally, the one who can keep our secret well, the one who will support
and take care of each other, and the one who will be by our side no matter what
condition we are in. It is important to scrutinize closely the person that we
choose to be our spouse as it is the source of happiness in our life.
To
get a righteous friend, it must start within us. Be good to people, and people
will be good to you.
“O
my Lord! Bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous” (As Shua’ra
26:83)
Allah
knows best.
